X Rocker Pro vs. DXRacer King Sit back and relax. When you write for a games and tech magazin4e you often find yourself writing about things that you aren’t necessarily familiar with, having to learn as much as possible so that you sound knowledgeable on the subject. Sometimes the job throws you a bit of a curveball, something so far outside your usual purview that you’re exploring a new world. Chairs are a new world. X Rocker Pro Series Wireless-Plus Pedestal Chair As far as gaming specific chairs go, the X Rocker word salad is right up there when it comes to comfort. It’s well cushioned and feels well put together with the exception of the slightly flimsy feeling arm rests. Packed into the chunky body are a number of speakers and a sub that can be adjusted to add rumble to the chair. In use it’s pretty neat – the speakers are good, though the placement of the side speakers directs sound away from the user rather than to them, muting it somewhat, and the rumble is palpable and ties in well with gaming.

I personally found the rumble distracting, but if you’re a fan of force feedback it should do nicely. It’s a little disappointing that the chair only accepts some wireless connections and an analogue input, but this does mean that pretty much anything can be made compatible with the right adapters. The X Rocker Pro Series Wireless-Plus Pedestal Chair is a pretty desirable piece of kit aside but suffers from a total lack of focus. What is it for exactly? It’s billed as a gaming chair but it doesn’t really add anything to the gaming experience aside from a little rumble. Its bulk also makes it a rather large addition to any lounge room, one that would require shifting between gaming sessions. It could make for a great PC gaming chair but the height of the chair and the choice to opt of a pedestal stand rather than casters makes it an impractical, not to mention mostly immovable option. As a result the X Rocker Pro Series Wireless-Plus Pedestal Chair feels like a solution in search of a niche rather than a product designed to fill a real niche.

The King series of the DXRacer line of chairs is a rather imposing thing and not simply because it’s the largest in the range, made to fit the heftier of buttock. Styled after a racing car seat, the DXRacer is a rather ostentatious piece of furniture, opting for flashy branding and bold colours rather than the austere looks common to most office style chairs. If the chair had lungs it would scream its allegiance to gaming and would probably go on to trash talk the opposition, that’s how unsubtle it is. It’s also very well made. The King series features heavy duty casters rated up to 180kg, but they aren’t the only things that feel solid in the construction. The gas lift is powerful, the arms feel nice and solid and the back gives fine support. The back and arm rests are all the more impressive in their feeling of strength due to how adjustable they are. The back can tilt from a little under 90° (though why you’d want the back of a chair to tilt that fat forward is beyond us) to nearly 180° and manages to feel stable throughout.

The arm rests can be adjusted in height, horizontal angle and how far forward or in they are positioned. Our demo model had a little rattle in one of the arm rests but a quick tightening put paid to that. The DXRacer King is a very comfortable gaming chair.

Are gaming chairs still popular? I often wonder about that since I gave up on them. I always see gamers wear expensive headsets, set up a surround sound system, or even use those sound bars that seem to fill entire rooms with…sound.

I hardly ever see anyone use a gaming chair and if my experience with them is the norm, then I know why. Meet the X Rocker Pro gaming chair. This wireless chair masterpiece comes with a sturdy aluminum base and faux leather seating, a 4.1 semi surround sound system with AFM technology. With this chair you will feel every rumble, every snap of a bullet, and an immersion so great, it defies the laws of physics and Mr. Newton himself. I really hope you caught the satire there. This chair is anything but immersive. Let’s run down the features I just mentioned. First, the rumble is not rumble at all. It’s more like a gentle quiver because the bass that is crammed in the back can’t produce any form of deep tones unless cranked up to the highest setting. However, if you do turn up the volume, the speakers tend to pop and your heart may as well be on its way to shock therapy. It’s a shame that the volume can get so loud, but the quality of the sound diminishes so rapidly.

Second, the wireless feature, while seeming like a nice touch, can have a lot of interference, especially if you are playing on a console and have a computer in the same room. You can hear a faint, but ever so noticeable high pitched ringing that will make you want to turn off the chair just to get some relief, and considering it has to be on to you know, work, that can be a problem. Third, and perhaps the worst thing about this chair is that the “sturdy aluminum base” is actually rather flimsy. Lean back too quick and it will break. Lean forward too much and it will break. Sit down too hard and it will break. It breaks easier than a potato chip in the front bag on a shelf at Wal-Mart. Please everyone, stay away from this junk if you are considering a gaming chair. Of course, at $200 you could just get a gaming headset for half of that and save yourself some money, but that is an article for another day. I’m curious to know if you own or ever have owned a gaming chair and if so, what did you like/dislike about it?
