Don is presently a director of the Vancouver Island University international high school, past director and board chair for the Vancouver Island University (2001-2007), director for Vancouver Island University Foundation, a member of the Nanaimo Haven Society and a Rotarian. An alumnus of Malaspina College and BCIT, Don has recently returned to university to study Anthropology and Archeology. Don obtained his ICD designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors on May 6, 2012.  In 2007 he received the Nanaimo citizen of the year award for community service. Don lives in Nanaimo. The Protection Island ferry runs every hour which is a walk on ferry only from the harbour in downtown Nanaimo. We will be pleased to pick you up on your arrival, however it is only a five minute walk to our home from the ferry. If you prefer to walk. We hope to make this a fun and relaxed getaway at your home away from home. We are happy to help with any travelling ideas, and look forward to meeting all our guests. We also respect our guests privacy. Protection Island offers a unique lifestyle for all who have chosen to call it home. There are approximately 350 homes with many full time residents and some who choose the summer months only. Golf carts, bicycles, wheelbarrows, trucks and cars all share our gravel roads. There are many parks with beach accesses, a playground and beautiful trails. There are several options to reach Nanaimo from the mainland. BC ferries arrives at Departure Bay from Horseshoe Bay and at Duke Point Terminal from Tsawassen Terminal.
