i put it on my counter so when im doing my crafting i can see it..i live in a apartment so its perfect for my space.. When we first plugged it in, I was very disappointed - the motor is so loud...turned it off, sounded like a grinding, didn't hear any water. I took the motor off and the black stopper at the end of the plastic tube, about half way down the tube there is a black stopper inside, with pliers I squeezed it up the tube until it came out. This is restricting how much water is flowing. Once I removed the piece and put it together, the water flowed wonderfully - added a few rocks and no longer hear the motor, only the water. I bought this particular fountain because it was different and I liked the ceramic material and colors. I was also concerned with splash over, and thought there would be little splashing with this particular design. (I was right, by the way - no wayward splashes!) The fountain worked fine for 3 days but then the motor got loud and drowned out the sound of the water.
