Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving. Story Currently, the TBGS Sixth Form common room is looking tired. It accommodates 330 students, the furniture is very old, damaged and impractical, and the area is in need of a revamp. What we would like to do is to create an area where students are able to work and also eat at the same time. Over the past couple of years, we have created two computer areas for the students to use, but these are areas where they are not allowed to eat.

We hope to repaint the whole space and furnish it with new seating and tables; this will be a mixture of long tables with benches and smaller round tables with chairs. We would also like to add some colour to make a more welcoming area where students are able to study, eat and socialise. Unfortunately, the cost of doing this is beyond what we can afford, given the various cuts to our school funding. The Senior Sixth Form team of prefects and I have thought it would be a good opportunity for the students, who are going to use this area in the next couple of years, to help raise the money needed to buy the furniture for it; the school will pay for the decoration. We are therefore encouraging all of the students in years 10, 11 and 12 to try to raise between £25 and £50 each which we will use to buy the new furniture. Students will be asked to organise their own events to raise the money or seek donations towards the cause. We will also organise a sponsored 5km and 10km fun run in school for anyone wishing to participate.

To help towards this appeal, Mr Bainbridge and Dr Stites will be participating in the Dartmoor Classic Grande Route cycle event on the 2nd of July. This is a 107mile bike ride over Dartmoor with over 10,000 feet of climbs. We will be running a “guess the finish time” competition in school and donations are also possible via JustGiving.
