Heading out into the big wide world with your newborn can feel scary – he seems so vulnerable – and you may think it’s better to keep him inside when it’s cold. But he needs fresh air as much as you do, and you can’t keep him inside forever. Hot tips for a cosy baby Worried it’s too cold? If the temperature is below -5°C, it’s probably best to stay at home but fortunately, in our climate, the temperature doesn’t stay that low for long. Never dismiss good old common sense – you don’t want your baby to be caught in the middle of crowds or coughed and spluttered over, so steer clear of ill people and very busy spots. But usually, as long as he’s well wrapped up, it’s fine to head outside. How do I know my baby’s warm enough? Every baby is different, and you’ll soon get used to the subtle signals he sends out. The NHS has more information on keeping your baby like Goldilocks’ porridge – not too hot and not too cold! To make nipping out less daunting, invest a little time in getting everything ready near your front door.

Gary Brissett, 48, was with his baby when he caused nearly £8,000 of damage by attacking the supercar while driver Oliver Hall popped into the shops.
Mr Hall returned moments later to discover a long scratch mark down the full length of the passenger side of his vehicle. But the whole incident was captured in high-quality footage by the luxury car's dashcam, which was viewed by millions after it went viral online. The video shows Brissett stop in front of the V8 Vanquish sports car, parked in a Tesco car park in Hackney, before rummaging around in his pockets. After he finds his keys, Brissett pulls the cover down on the baby's pushchair and slowly approaches the vehicle. With the keys in his left hand, Brissett, who has a 13-month-old baby, grimaces as he drags them down the complete side of the car, ruining the Aston's paint. The vandal was easily identified from the footage and soon arrested after police released the video to the media. Appearing at Thames Magistrates' Court, Brissett said "morning ma'am" to magistrate Carol Brabender before confirming his name, date of birth and address. He then entered a guilty plea to a charge of causing £7,741 damage to the near side of Mr Hall's car on June 19.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing until 19 September, but warned Bassett he could face jail. Ms Brabender told him: "You are a single father with a 13-month-old little baby and at that age they start to copy you. You have got to be a lot more proactive with your child. "You are looking at a prison sentence. Who is going to look after your child, social services? What a stupid thing to do." Asked if he wanted to say anything, Brissett shook his head. The magistrate added: "You're silly, aren't you? A man of your age too." Prosecutor Rosalind Fox told magistrates Mr Hall parked his car near Tesco before crossing the road to the supermarket's main entrance. "He returned shortly thereafter and when he arrived at the vehicle's passenger side he noticed a long scratch that started over the front left wheel and extended towards the left wing," she said. But luckily the victim had a camera mounted on the windscreen, the court heard. "Looking at the footage he sees a gentleman pushing a pushchair of a child and sees this defendant holding in his right hand a bunch of keys, which he transfers to his left hand.
