A Leander High School student had a surprise ending to her senior year of prom after being handed the title of Leander High’s 2017 Prom Queen. Abby Cano and Keilany Solano were two of the five nominees for prom queen, and when Solano’s name was chosen as the winner she decided to re-write the rules. Solano handed her tiara and sash to Cano, awarding her the new prom queen of the 2017 senior class. Cano, who has down syndrome, is known for her gracious spirit, friendly attitude and for giving her peers high-fives through the hallways between class, according to a KXAN story. Solano knew what she had to do once she found out the news in the middle of the dance floor. “I did it because I knew at that moment she would be even happier than me, and I felt like she deserved it more,” Solano said.
