The view is unparalleled, a frequent flyer sweet secret, and it's only found on the upper level at Cathay Pacific's Business Class lounge, The Wing. The Wing itself is nothing new, but the layout and amenities of the place have recently been totally revamped, updated and kitted out with designer furniture, power outlets where you want them, and classic Asian touches like towering bamboo stalks. Even before the renovation, The Wing ranked as one of our favorite airline lounges in the world. Now, with the addition of a cozier lower level, a "Coffee Loft," and sexy wire Eames chairs, our heart starts racing at the thought of spending a few hours within its walls.But only within the walls, you see, as The Wing is famous for its soaring ceiling…or lack of one. The lounge is two levels, and heading to the upper, larger area means looking up to the faceted airport roof far above.

Head straight back, all the way back, to The Coffee Loft. The Coffee Loft is our favorite spot in the entire lounge and yet it didn't exist before. Here you'll have excellent views of gates 2, 3 and 4, plus out across the whole apron. There's four different types of seating depending on how upright you'd like to be: Foster bar stools, Eames wire chairs, Knoll "Oscar" armchairs and cozy, recessed banquette couches. In the mornings, a dedicated barista makes you real coffee (versus pressing a button on an instant machine) and serves up a variety of pastries made using AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) butter from France. He may be a bit biased, but Cathay Pacific's General Manager of Product, Alex McGowan, claims they're "the best pastries in Hong Kong," and rest assured that this is not a metropolis short on tasty pastries.

In the evening, The Coffee Loft swings into a cocktail focus. Now, because The Coffee Loft is clear at the end of the second level, most loungers don't make the trek back here. And that barstool all the way in the corner overlooking the airport? That's unofficially our barstool, the location in which we drafted this very post (note the power outlets directly underneath the bar top). Based on the book, “An Eames Primer”, authored by the design duo's grandson Eames Demetrios, the exhibition will trace the life and work of the couple who are credited with “…changing the way the 20th Century sat down” by the Washington Post. Many are surprised to learn than not only furniture, the duo also created many other masterpieces in architecture, exhibitions, toys and films that incorporate elements of art and science as well as design, architecture, functionality and aesthetic.
