The Middle Ages Group of Prospect United Methodist Church will be holding the dinner starting at 6 p.m. at the church at 99 Summer St. The church fundraiser dinner has been held for the past seven years and sees the church’s Sessions Hall transformed into a 16th Century Great Hall with shields, velvet curtains, crests and banners. “Everything is put up by my husband and another gentleman from the church,” said church member Luisa Gladu.

“They researched the different types of shields from this period and some of the crests will be the actual family crests of church members. Half of the banners are made by my husband and the other half come from various Renaissance fairs that he has been to. We also have two beautiful chairs in the church that look like thrones.” The theme of the dinner is that the king and his royal court are holding a spring feast and have invited the local gentry to attend. Costumes are encouraged for guests but not required and there will be audience participation elements to the show. “All of our costumes are pretty close to period accurate,” said Gladu. “We have an excellent, embroidered, King Henry costume and the story for this year is that the queen doesn’t want to attend, which puts him into a rage. There will be a twist ending which is sure to surprise and entertain.” Gladu said that the entertainment portion of the show has been different every year. Three years ago there was Scottish dancing in kilts.
