I too purchased a pair of these chairs, my experience is same as yours, the middle legs do not touch the ground, even with a person on the chair. In my opinion, this is a defect in the chair, The legs should touch ground. I also found that the frame sections did not line up during assembly and had to be held in a bent position in order to assemble the bolts.
