Finding a Beach Wheelchair At publication, 35 of Florida's state parks offer free beach wheelchairs for use during your visit. How to Borrow If you are borrowing a beach wheelchair at a state park, you must provide advanced notice. Other beaches, including city beaches, government parks and off-the-beaten-path beaches, may be trickier. Always call ahead to reserve a beach wheelchair, which ensures that one will be available. If you cannot call ahead, look for signage once you arrive. Some Florida beaches provide a phone number to call for beach wheel chair assistance; look for these signs near the bathrooms or in concession areas. Check with the lifeguard on duty or other beach personnel for assistance with the beach wheelchair once you arrive. Tips and Considerations If you have your heart set on a particular Florida beach that does not offer a beach wheelchair, you can rent or buy one and bring it with you. Several wheelchair companies sell beach wheelchairs online, or you can rent a model in person from Florida-based wheelchair rental company. You must be unable to walk or have a handicapped automobile tag to borrow a beach wheelchair.
