MERIDEN — Rick Jardine, longtime owner of Rick’s Barbershop on West Main Street, died Thursday after a battle with cancer.wheelchairs for sale okc Jardine, 68, died at Masonicare in Wallingford, according to his obituary. He is survived by his wife, Suzette, and daughter, Yvette Rivera. He is also survived by his brother William and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the longtime owner of Rick’s Barber Shop, a well-known establishment on West Main Street. Jardine retired in September after handing over the shop to Ed Pratte, who worked under Jardine for a year.
In September, Jardine told the Record-Journal he hoped to continue part-time. He said the best part of the job was his customers. Work begins to restore vacant East Main Street building “I want to keep going,” he said. After Jardine’s retirement in September, Pratte put up a new sign that features Jardine’s face and reads “The Barber.” “It’s dedicated to Rick,” Pratte said earlier this month. “Rick’s the barber in this town.” Jardine graduated from barber school more than 50 years ago and owned the Hair Loft in the 1970’s and 80’s. During his career, Jardine saw generations of families sit in his barber chair. “He looked forward to greeting his friends and customers with his signature hearty laugh,” Jardine’s obituary states. “He enjoyed seeing his longtime customers bring in their children and grandchildren through the years.” Pratte said Jardine was his mentor. “Everything I know about cutting hair and running the business I learned from him,” he said.
Jardine’s family will receive visitors and friends at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. His ashes will be laid to rest in Key West, “the place that brought him the most joy and where he had hopes to retire,” his obituary says.
