The client brief specified that the interior design was to define the business’ new corporate identity and lead the relaunch their brand. Here is what we started with. And after some 12 days of working through the day and night (and 6 months in the planning) this is what we ended with.
Inspired by the glamour and sophistication of owner, Roberta Magill, a former classical ballet dancer, the result is a luxurious, yet minimal design appealing to both men and women and incorporates quartz crystal lights and bespoke walnut and copper furniture, as well as exclusive barber’s section complete with a refurbished vintage barber’s chair. Rather than draw upon established conventions for hair salon design Kate Challis Interiors looked to cafes, bars, restaurants and residential design both past and present in order to create a sophisticated, elegant yet welcoming ambience. The design embraces the philosophies of minimalism, but with soft warm walls painted in Wattyl’s “Athens” which showcases the superb craftsmanship and the materials of the furniture and fittings including quartz crystal, copper and walnut. Contrasting with this refinement is the industrial epoxy flooring traditionally found in warehouses and factories. Challis is passionate about using local talent and solely used local artisan-built furniture and lighting.
